A Community Tradition
The Tsawwassen Sun Festival began in 1972 and has been a summertime staple ever since. Now celebrating its 54th year, the festival has evolved over time—at one point stretching to 10 days in the early 1980s before settling into its now familiar three-day format. Through all the changes over the years, the spirit of the festival has remained constant—bringing people together to celebrate community and connection.
Festival Highlights
Winskill Park is the hub of the action, hosting many of the festival’s biggest attractions like the children’s midway, live music, pancake breakfast, plus a variety of games and family-friendly activities. One of the longest-standing traditions is the slo-pitch tournament, drawing teams from near and far for a weekend of fun on the field. And don’t forget the beer garden!

Celebrating on Ancestral Land
It's also important to recognize that the Sun Festival takes place on the ancestral territory of the Tsawwassen First Nation, who have lived in the area for more than 4,200 years. Their deep connection to this land adds meaning and perspective to the celebrations we enjoy today.
